These are unprinted, unembossed Perspex blanks without retro-reflective sheeting, SABS markings, or road-legal certification. Under South African law, only SABS-approved plates with retro-reflective sheeting and an official supplier code are legal for use on public roads.
Gauteng: Perspex/acrylic plates are not permitted for vehicles first registered after 1 January 2010.
Other provinces may allow acrylic plates only if produced from SABS-approved materials by an accredited supplier in accordance with SANS 1116.
